What I'd really like again is a centralised site, which includes its own chatroom/s. *Misses Evan like woah*. A place where all of fandom, all of fandoms, converge, and from which they can then branch out, always with that site as a focal point.

But that of course requires commitment that I don't think any one fan, or even group of fans, can or will give. Also, sadly, in fandom there's so much politics, hierarchy, even the silent kind, that such a site has very little chance of being impartial and seen as such. Whether as a mere tool, or a fannish warm home, I can't quite see it happening.

-

I wanted the future, but it seems I rely on the past for ideas; content-based rather than people-based. Separation of state and religion a fan's personal journaling and their fandom-oriented material. One for the benefit of human relations, and one for the benefit of fandom as an interest group.

-

Also, would be interesting to have a centralised community/list such as [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts on other places, for example, as a way for InsaneJournal people to find each other and perhaps even to find similar-interest communities.

Note: Very nearly typed "fandom_cunts". That's not a bad name for something or other.

I think part of the problem here is [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts. I think it proved that we're not that big a part of LJ and that they can ignore 34,000 squeaky wheels in favor of the 2,966,000 other customers.

Will ponder all this as I drive. Am off to Boulder for new hiking boots and a day with friends.

I actually think you're wrong on that. I think 34 thousand people - and the numbers are still growing every day - are a HUGE group, if united. LJ has 3mill, yes, but how united are they? What's their interest? 34K is a big enough number to count in RL politics, if united. Imagine a march of everyone in fandom_counts. It'll plug up a large sized city.

The question is just how to keep all these people in touch *without* LJ.

Have nice shoes! :)

I'm not sure [livejournal.com profile] fandom_cunts would be allowed as a community journal name, when users aren't even allowed to have a default icon which depicts a mother breastfeeding her baby.

Then again, I'm hardly one to talk...

*smile*

I think the thing with LJ and names and icons is more noise than actual danger, I have to say. My problems with it are elsewhere.

...Was it you who started [livejournal.com profile] fandom_cunts, then? The date says 2007-06-04.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Nooo, I just assumed (should've known better!) it wasn't an existing comm. It's pretty puerile humour, but, well. I've been known to be guilty of some pretty low-brow toilet humour myself.

Never underestimate the fannish mind. If it's disturbing and wrong, someone's already thought of it.

I think people are trying to work on something. Maybe the best thing to do is start pimping non LJ related fannish groups and lists.

Sounds good. I miss some place to go and meet people like that...
I am in the middle of the 7th Potter (no spoilers! :)), and was thinking I don't even have a good place to go talk about bunnies and that...
I actually talk to real life people about it more that to online people!

content-based - I really miss groups. Really.

fandom_cunts - lol yay! There really should be something called that :)

Well, actually, if it's talking to people you want, LJ is sort of fitting for your purposes... You just never used it. Potternoise is most prominent around here.

There really should be something called that

There is, but sadly it's a waste. Place-holder, nothing more.

I did do lj, but really hated it. Way too much politics.

Place to talk - talk, read fic, meet the same group of people, focused on the issue I am interested in, without all the crap. Not. LJ. .
