Most people assume the whole Ripper deal was 1970s; but Olivia refers to him as such ["Couldn't pass through sunny Cal without looking up ol' Ripper"], and the actress was born in 1972. We can only hope that he didn't sleep with her until 1990 more or less.

I'm just sayin', 80's G/E is not out of the question. In fact, anything up to 1996 or so is - should be - fair game.

There's a "post bits of your WIPs" meme going around. I go hmmm.

I have hundreds, possibly thousands of started files. No, I'm not exaggerating. Most though I wouldn't consider exactly works in progress, as there is no work, nor progress. Some are stories that I abandoned, some stories I forgot and might stumble back to, some day. Some are just ideas or lines I had to get out of my head. Some are bad, although some I suspect are really good.

Because there is so much on my mind, I can't concentrate on any of them. I can't say, "yes, these dozen are worth posting bits of".

What I'd really like again is a centralised site, which includes its own chatroom/s. *Misses Evan like woah*. A place where all of fandom, all of fandoms, converge, and from which they can then branch out, always with that site as a focal point.

But that of course requires commitment that I don't think any one fan, or even group of fans, can or will give. Also, sadly, in fandom there's so much politics, hierarchy, even the silent kind, that such a site has very little chance of being impartial and seen as such. Whether as a mere tool, or a fannish warm home, I can't quite see it happening.

-

I wanted the future, but it seems I rely on the past for ideas; content-based rather than people-based. Separation of state and religion a fan's personal journaling and their fandom-oriented material. One for the benefit of human relations, and one for the benefit of fandom as an interest group.

-

Also, would be interesting to have a centralised community/list such as [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts on other places, for example, as a way for InsaneJournal people to find each other and perhaps even to find similar-interest communities.

Note: Very nearly typed "fandom_cunts". That's not a bad name for something or other.

How come it's "illegal" to write about incest, but not about murder (or mass murder)?

Re all the noise (one example of many): I haven't really bothered to do anything. And nothing on my lj is flocked. Should I at all be worried? I have everything backed up, and I'm a dark shadow lurker, plus I find there is little care in my heart.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] babydraco has some good advice.

Old episode of Friends, and Phoebe's sitting in the café and Rachel runs in, and Phoebe says she's busy concentrating, and Rachel says, what are you doing. And Phoebe says, "Trying to move that pencil" (on the table in front of her); and Rachel lifts the thing up and says "This one?", and Phoebe says "Yay, it worked!" ... And everybody laughs.

Welcome to Results Magic; it's not a joke. This is how it works.

...In a somewhat related item, I'm thinking of moving all my "serious" posts to another LJ and leave this one maybe fandomy alone.

How does one bleach bones?

Now, before you start telling me about how I can just google, let me point out that I have. They're talking about bleaching found, raw bones, and mine are cooked. Well, fried. But the point is, been through stuff in their lives and deaths. Frozen, defrosted, fried and now kept in the freezer until I figure out what to do exactly, which could cause more of a problem with the texture and the crumbling that might happen.

I hear peroxide but it seems harsh on cooked bones. I hear cooking in vinegar but that seems very smelly. I think boiling water won't do, because small bones full of marrow.

So I thought, that's exactly the kind of question to ask on LJ!

I added another bit to the Bad Romance Novel meme entry, when it dawned on me: those excerpts could never stand-alone. They all rely on canon, in-joke or at least knowledge of detail - the first requires just knowledge of a main thing in canon, the second though refers to a minor, inconsequential detail that is easily forgotten by non-fans, and the third is directly quoting something that isn't even in its fandom, or, not exactly.

... I realise not many read it, but it does make me wonder, of the few and brave who do read it, how much is lost because it's too... "clear in my head, but not said explicitly in the story". And how would I handle it in Proper Original Fic, which I do write but don't post.

On a different note: Yes, I will reply to all the lovely comments. Also the less lovely ones. The minute I can get a minute.

Connor: So, Vampire Slayers. I was told about them. How come you're always girls?
Faith: I don't know. Better at it, I guess.

So, vampire slayers. Always girls. Anyone - those pseudo-canony things or in fic - ever explored the trans angle? I'm asking seriously, not talking crack fic.

Is it a woman thing? If so, can a slayer be a girl with a male body? What would the watchers do? Or is it a body, DNA, chromosome thing, in which case, what happens if a slayer is on testosterone and on his way towards chest surgery? And what happens with intersex people, how does that work re slayerhood? There's been tons of slayers through the ages, no way did this never come up, unless the "only girls" thing is extremely severe and somehow picky. In which case, I still want to know how it works.
