Like-minded women enjoy a nice cup of ale in a dimly lit tavern in town. Cassandra shares her tale of woe, and the woman across the table nurtures and enflames her anger.

"Don't you wish they would be punished for what they've done to you?"

"I wish... I wish..."

"Yes?" Anya leans forward, eyes alight with vengeance.

"I wish the Horsemen would suffer at each other's hands what I've suffered with them," Cassandra sighs, and leans her head against the wooden table.

Anya shrugs. To each her own, she thinks. "Done," she says, and her demon face shows through.

His hands so soft on her, his smile so loving. She'd never had it so good, she'd never been this cherished by anyone, and when he entered her, so slowly, caressing her, she spoke words of love and heard them uttered back at her.

Cassandra wakes in a sweat, pulse racing. This dream - there was a time she'd dreamt it every night. Then it tapered, and she'd only dream it once every few weeks, and then once every few decades. But it never went away completely. It always came back to haunt her.

She knows she won't be able to sleep again tonight. Shivering, she leaves her bed, tightening the thin silk robe around her like an armour; not for warmth and not for modesty, but just to have something protecting her from the world around her. She sets to make herself a cup of hot drink, to warm and chase away the chill in her bones.

The first time she had this dream she feared she'd never be rid of these feelings, this unwanted need to believe he truly loved her. The first time she woke crying for what she'd lost, despite everything, despite...

He was her first love. And her first hurt, her first fear and her first death; she'll never forget his hands, and what they gave her. Cassandra walks to the cupboard where her sword is, rests her hand on it, and once again swears revenge.

So I'm having this bunny, yes, which is a Wishverse!Highlander.

For those of you who don't know one or the other: Anya, a vengeance demon who helps scorned women by inflicting various ailments and pain on the men who hurt them, often changing the course of history by doing so. Cassandra, an angry woman who was abused by a couple of guys rather horribly, and holds her grudge for a few millennia.

In the bunny they meet, of course, Cassandra has a wish and Anya fulfills it.

I discuss it with ceruleancat. Extensively. At one point, I say, "but what year should this be in?" - We have all the way from around 880 to 1998 or so.

Cat says, at random, "1592".

I say, "what happened in 1592?"

She shrugs. I go wiki.
