First of all, THANK YOU. The good thoughts and wellwishing actually helped, and some luck came our way. Do keep it up, people. I can't thank you enough.

We barely have time on the internet and we can't find a thing. We're in Paris, France. We need a place that delivers cat food (Royal Canin for felines, young male diet and stones), and then there's other cat supplies, like a proper litter box; we can't even find a pet shop! We also need to know how and where to get a good cheap computer, TV, phone line... INTERNET!!!

In short, we need someone to do a search for us. We spend so much on this over priced internet "cafe" (no coffee), and no luck in finding anything. And don't get me started on the keyboards.

Help.

No, really. Help. I know it's much to ask, but we're dangerously nearing deseprate here.

WTF? My g-d, hon, what happened? *hugs you some more*

I'm afraid I don't know anything about Paris, so I don't know how much I can do to help you, but from this site: http://www.understandfrance.org/Paris/Life.html

"many pet shops Quai de la Mégisserie (between La Samaritaine and Chatelet)"

which is located at:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=Quai+de+la+M%C3%A9gisserie+paris+france&sll=49.891235,-97.15369&sspn=27.26845,59.238281&ie=UTF8&ll=48.858179,2.345474&spn=0.006776,0.014462&z=16&iwloc=addr&om=1

There's a note on that site re: computer help but I don't know how relevant that is, so list of computer stores here:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=l&view=text&hl=en&q=computer+store&near=Paris%2C+France&btnG=Search+Businesses

I wish I knew more or knew someone who could help. :(

Also:

Some of the organizations/businesses on that page might be helpful (American focus aside).

Embassy? Consulate? High commission? Let me know if you'd like me to look up contact info for anything like that.

Maybe local hostels (which are usually full of work/study travellers from all over the place, some of whom are looking for apartments -- the staff there might know where to look, or there might be a Time Out-style magazine for same)?

Aw hon.

... We do have a place to live, and some day I'll have the time to tell you all about the hell we'be been through to get to this. But the other stuff is so, so helpful. Thanks so much.

Talk to you more when I can... I owe you several hundred hugs.

*squish* I'm so, so glad you have somewhere to live -- but it's still worth speaking to some hostel staff. You'll find most if not all speak English (from personal and anecdotal experience, every hostel seems to be staffed by Australians!), and considering how many people start off student-abroad work/study programs by staying in hostels, they'll likely know the best options for stuff like phone, internet, etc. It's worth asking, anyway. More:

http://www.timeout.com/paris/ (which is more travel-related, but the London hard-copy version I picked up a few times back in the day had info re: staying for a longer term)

Be well. I hope things settle down for you soon.

I'm pretty far from the scene and really not sure how much I'll be able to find, but I'll certainly try.

In the meantime, please try to take care of yourselves. Stress like you're obviously going through can wreak havoc on even the strongest and most healthy people. And it's many times worse for those of us with health challenges anyway. So take care of yourselves, ok? And if there's anything else I can do, feel free to give me a shout.

Now here's to hoping LJ isn't still mad at me and will actually let me post this comment. I've been trying for days to comment on various posts with absolutely zero luck. So I guess we'll see. :)

Lots of *hugs* to you both. You are such dear people and I really miss our chats.

We're in Vincennes, you know the place?

Cat speaks French, which obviously helps a great deal, but supermarkets barely have passable litter, and nothing more complex than that. Our cats need special food for their little health issues (spoiled little royalty that they are).

The links are extremely useful, and thank you so much :)

Ahh

I have visited Vincennes on a couple of occasions mainly to visit the Bois de Vincennes so I can't say I'm overly familiar with the area. It had good shopping as far as I remember and you should be able to get around easily via the metro and hopefully the links that everyone has given you have helped.

I'd say talk to people there and ask them where the best places to get computers and ISP are. French shopping tends to be less generalised then you are used to so hopefully now you have located shops which sell the products you require. Once you are there again, I suggest you have a chat with the people who run them and they should be able to assist with any other requirements you have for the cats.

Once you are a bit more settled do get in touch. It would be great to hook up next time I am over in Paris. :)

Yikes!

I've only been to Paris once, so I'm of absolutely no help at all in that area. But! I'm good with hugs!

Like others, I didn't know you were going to France but hope all is well. David was in Paris this last week, actually; funny to think you may have passed like ships.

Looks like you've had lots of great advice; hope it all works out ::hugs::

I searched for pet shops in Vincennes, France and got a few:

Chiens, Chats, et les autres: http://www.ccela.com/index.php

who are at 5 boulevard Chanzy, 93100 Montreuil.

Computer shop here:

4, Rue Taillandiers, Paris - +33 1 43 38 00 30

and maybe they could explain about hooking up to an ISP?

When in Paris, my sister used a veterinarian next door to her hotel, which might be near you:
Hôtel Lyon Bastille

She also found supplies in the pet section of the department store La Samaritaine, 19 Rue de la Monnaie, 1st Arrondissement, Métro stop: Pont Neuf

From what I gather, this here should be the list of shops slling Royal Canin in Paris, from Royal Canin's website.
This claims to be an 'easy-to-use list of ISP's in Paris, France, in English'.
Searching for computer hardware shops I found this and this.
I send you hugs and all the good wishes and luck and ... I hope you can settle in more or less comfortably and recover from the moving...
