answer #1: "..Because they had a dog there named Lex, and the fact it all sounds like a Superman episode and gives Adam giggles and bunnies, shouldn't count for anything".
why is Ethan easier to write than Lindsey?
Yay to writing!
Answer #2: Ethan is easy, period. He'd a darling boy. Dangerous, mind, I mean he smiles nice and all but don't turn your back. But he is easy, to write, to lure into new adventures, anything. Part of why we love him so. And Lindsey might be more burdened with the angst of his universe. Ethan, less burdened.
I'm just happy. And in love. A little bit. With a fictional character.

Possibly, not sure. Ethan went in an unanticipated direction, which I guess is his stock in trade, but I'm not 100% convinced it works. Methos seems unfazed by it however. I'm having a break from it now and I'm planning to edit it later tonight and then I'll have a better idea of how well it works, it's always hard to tell when you're in the middle of writing it.
:-) I have a friend who's agreed to look at it when I've edited, as there's an aspect I want to get right and she's the closest I know to an authority. I think I may watch a cheesy movie and then come back to it tonight, I kind of want to edit it now, but I don't think I've had enough of a break from it yet to do so successfully.
Also, I realised it's my 99th fic - *that's* scary.
Ethan's behaving a little... uncharacteristic at the mo, I've put it down to escaping the Initiative and being in hiding for however long. No particular sign of wanting to turn anyone into a demon... possibly something worse by the end of the fic though, but that's more a revenge thing, of which I think him quite capable ;-)
I'm not sure what you mean by "uncharacteristic". The man has a wide and varied life, and many things can happen in them that we've never seen in canon but are perfectly in-character... At least that's the way I see it. I know that many would disagree (not you; I'm having a rant at the moment, you happen to be around to read it).
Uncharacteristic as in, contrary to the way people usually portray him. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, I agree, but I need it to still ring true to his character, if you follow.
Rant away, it's fun, is there a particular protrayal that bugs you? Or someone's reaction to a portrayal as 'OMG!!1eleventyone11! he would *never* do that!' ;-)
The tendency of many people to view villains, from relatively mild ones to the real Big Bad ones, as one-dimensional "all evil all the time" cartoon villains. Who have no life outside of their ten minutes in canon. Who never have a... thought in their head that isn't given or implied in pure canon, because it's not like the guy is 50 (or 5000) and had more of a life than the ten minutes we're given, and it's not like he could, on occasion, not act 100% according to script. In short, they treat those characters as if they were characters, rather than people. It's an annoying mistake in fanfic, but even more annoying when it appears in SO MANY canons I happen to bump into when watching Real (=paid for) television and other media.
I know what you mean, I tend to go with the approach that my English Lit teacher advised for essay writing. She said you could write whatever you liked as long as you could back it up. I tend to hold the same view for fanfic, even if your characterisation spun off from a single throw away line, it's just as valid as one that's been done to death. If it's based on a back story you invented because the series gave you none, it's still as valid as episode-based fic.
I suspect, for a lot of people, script writers and ficcers, it's easier to go with the flow. Characters' responses are already defined by previous actions/words so just go with that and ignore the fact that the situation might be different or the character might have evolved.
*huffs because it's pretty much impossible for Kronos to stay that 100% grr all the time without having even one quiet moment*
There are at least 2 fics I really, really need to work on then. One wingfic flashback that gives him a bit of history and one standalone set during Deliverance where he's a medical researcher into tropical diseases in a hospital in Athens - 2+2= 27 ;-))
Kronos as med researcher in Athens scenario = Methos entrusting Alexa to Kronos' care while he goes chasing after Duncan, because he knows Kronos can be relied on if he asks and he wouldn't abandon Alexa in a foreign country to go haring after the Highlander = Kronos being sneaky bastard on Methos' return and being caring in his own demented way.
I could elaborate, but it would virtually involve writing the fic, and that would mean going through the... however many notebooks of notes I have to find the ones it's in to finish it off and type it up.
Support what? the scenario or me digging through a lot of notebooks to find it... if I remember correctly, I had quite a hot sex scene all written out... could be thinking of a different fic though.
Nah, I'm pretty much incapable of a PWP, it always ends up with some kind of character stuff and plot in it ;-)
Maybe I'll drop that one in the queue of currently ongoing fics... though why I seem to work on 3 or 4 simultaneously I have no idea, I'm sure it would be easier and less confusing to do one at a time...
