Dark menacing shadow - foreshadowing - terrible blackness hovering, towering over a small frightened child. The nightmare, the worst demon a mother could fear. Wings of darkness envelop, embrace, until all shred of brightness, all glimpse of yellow cape disappears in the black. Expressionless white eye-holes gaze from a black cowl, sharp plastic features of a face. Lost in the cape, the boy feels strangled, terrified, and the endless, tentacled monster that is the man above him, says nothing.
Dick wakes up gasping, eyes wide in the darkness of his room, hand reaching for a weapon before he realises where he is.
